My Son, Harry Francis Smith (Davey Boy Smith Jr.): Wrestling Royalty and Global Champion
As Harry’s mom, I am incredibly proud of my son, who stands at an impressive 6 foot 5 inches (approximately 1.96 meters) and weighs around 260 pounds (about 118 kilograms). He is the only son of my late husband, the legendary Davey Boy Smith—the British Bulldog. Harry is a third-generation wrestler from our renowned Hart family, carrying on the legacy of his father Davey, my father, Stu Hart, and Harry’s many wrestling uncles including Smith, Bruce, Bret and Owen Hart, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, and The Dynamite Kid. In conjunction with his only sibling Georgia, Harry honors our family’s name and the cherished memory of their father with integrity, love, and deep respect.
Harry began his wrestling career at just eight years old at the Rockyford Rodeo in Alberta, where he faced his cousin Matt Annis in a legitimate professional wrestling match. He trained in our family’s Hart Dungeon in Calgary with my brothers Bruce and Ross, and later he and TJ Wilson trained for months on a daily basis with Tokyo Joe to learn the art of Japanese “strong style” wrestling. He also trained extensively with Billy Robinson in Little Rock, Arkansas, all of which contributed considerably in helping to shape his remarkable versatility and strength in the ring and on the mat.
Harry’s vast and solid career included teaming with TJ Wilson (Tyson Kidd), and his cousin Natalya, (daughter to my sister Ellie and Jim Neidhart) of the Hart Dynasty, capturing the WWE Unified Tag Team Championship. Harry has held major titles in federations such as MLW, WWE, NWA, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), and Ring-ka-King in India. He has tagged Lance Archer (Killer Elite Squad), with his cousin Ted Hart and Brian Pillman Jr. (son of the late Brian Pillman).
Harry is among the few gaijin/foreign heavyweight wrestlers who have achieved the AJPW Triple Crown Championship—a distinction that his father, Davey, and uncle, the Dynamite Kid, both pursued but did not attain.
Harry has competed in Josh Barnett’s Blood Sport events (MMA/catch wrestling) and defeated the UK’s Chris Crossan and Travis Newaza in Live Catch Matches put together by Josh Barnett. He won gold in the super-heavyweight division at the NAGA competition in Las Vegas in 2016. In 2017, he achieved Absolute 1st place in the Billy Robinson Classic.
One of my most treasured memories is seeing on video Harry tag-teaming with his dad, Davey, for two matches in Winnipeg, during Davey’s comeback to wrestling just before his sudden passing in May 2002. It was everyone’s natural hope that Davey, as a father, and an experienced wrestler, would be a guiding and supportive presence for Harry as his career, even as a teenager, was already gaining traction and positive attention from Japan and WWE; Davey would have fit in so comfortably in that natural trajectory.
My son Harry is well-known and respected for his dedication to scientific grappling prowess, adaptability from amateur to pro-wrestling to combative disciplines. Harry, and his sister Georgia are both passionate animal lovers and enjoy cooking, and are great impersonators, a trait that perhaps they inherited from their dad Davey, and the Smith side, or they inherited this from my side of the family, as my late brothers Dean and Owen were also amusing, gifted impersonators.
